Autumn Martens, Vice President of Clinical Development
PT, DPT, FAAOMPT
Dr. Martens was born and raised in Northern California. A President's Scholar, she graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science in Biology specializing in Human Physiology. Dr. Martens continued her education at the University of Delaware where she completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011. Her clinical rotation at Walter Reed Army Medical in Washington DC is where she developed her love for working with patients who have had an amputation. In 2015, Dr. Martens completed a three-year fellowship program for Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapy, receiving the title of Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. A perpetual student, she is currently furthering her education by pursuing her Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy at Texas Tech University Health Science Center.
While Dr. Martens may love and value education, it has always been in the pursuit of achieving better results for her patients. Her approach to physical therapy is to be as specific, intentional and targeted in treatment as possible. This all starts with listening to the patient and establishing an understanding of the underlying cause of a patient's problem, not just diagnosing the painful structure. Discerning the "why" allows treatment to be more precise and helps to ensure the pain does not return down the road. Nothing gets Dr. Martens more excited than helping someone avoid surgery or getting back what they love without pain.
Outside of the clinic Dr. Martens relishes traveling, both domestic and abroad. She also loves to read, particularly historical fiction, and has recently started practicing an anti-inflammatory diet and is enjoying experimenting in the kitchen to that end.
